Some of the world’s leading exponents of arts and music therapy will be speaking at the ‘Arts Therapies and Brain Injury’ Conference hosted by the UK’s leading national arts therapy provider, Chroma next March in London.

Speakers include Dr Jeanette Tamplin from Melbourne University, who has worked as a music therapist in neurorehabilitation for 20 years. Her research focuses on the therapeutic effects of singing, speech and language rehabilitation.

Joining Jeanette will be Sarah B. Johnson from Colorado State University, who has presented on Neurologic Music Therapy at the state, regional and national levels, and continues to teach and present on her clinical work internationally.

Also, Dr Anna Bukowska from the University of Physical Education in Poland who’s research concentrates on Neurologic Music Therapy applications which improve movement/motion, daily life activities and the quality of life in a group of patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Taking place on 15 March 2018 at the British Medical Association House, London, places are open to anyone involved in rehabilitation, with subsidised places for students, NHS, social care workers and charities.

A tightly packed informative program includes:

  • Client case study – a brain injury client recounts their experience of accessing an arts therapy-based intervention as part of their rehabilitation journey
  • Current theory, practice and research – an introduction to the evolving field of the creative arts therapies, and specifically Neurologic Music Therapy within brain injury rehabilitation
  • Assessment, evaluation and measuring outcomes – covering research-based clinical applications of the Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Awareness with Disorders of Consciousness with adults and children who are minimally responsive due to profound brain injury and end-stage dementia

With much more, the Conference will leave delegates with an abundance of knowledge and clinical evidence that will demonstrate the improved outcomes arts therapies offers brain injury patients in rehab.

Daniel Thomas, managing director of Chroma said: “We are extremely lucky to have so many respected experts, from across the globe, delivering the latest knowledge surrounding arts therapy and its use in rehabilitation. The Conference will be a great opportunity for people to gain valuable insight on this vitally important area and pave the way for even more discussion on something that deserves wider recognition.”

“The conference is set to be an intriguing and insightful day for all delegates, who will have a unique opportunity to network with key industry influencers as well as those who share the same passion for the use of arts therapy within care.”

Sponsored by Bolt Burdon Kemp Solicitors, the ‘Arts Therapies and Brain Injury’ Conference takes place on Thursday 15 March, 2108 at BMA House, Tavistock Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1H.
