Music Therapy

Music therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention. Music therapists help people by supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs. You don’t need musical knowledge or experience to access music therapy sessions. Music therapy is a profession recognised in law and is regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council.

Sessions might include playing improvised (“made up”) music on instruments, listening to music, song writing, or learning to use melody and rhythm to support brain functioning. Our music therapists are skilled at engaging with you through the music you already enjoy. They can help find the right kind of music to meet your therapy outcomes.

Extensive research shows that music therapy is a cost-effective treatment modality that can:

  • Help children and parents develop healthy bonds
  • Facilitate positive changes in emotional wellbeing and communication.
  • Enhance self awareness and the awareness of others.
  • Improve concentration and attention skills
  • Help people tolerate and work with strong emotions
  • Provide help for families when things are difficult, for example, offering support through bereavement or loss.
  • Enable confidence to develop and increase engagement and learning opportunities.

There are many more applications for music therapy and we tailor sessions to your individual needs.

Our music therapists are collaborative skilled communicators who are supported by Chroma with relevant training, CPD and reflective practice opportunities. We will always work closely with family and other professionals to ensure the positive outcomes from music therapy impact on daily life.

Music therapy can be fun, enjoyable and therefore there is a high level of motivation to attend, develop a strong therapeutic relationship and achieve therapeutic goals.
